RE: Traveling Southwest in January & February

Thank you so much for all the info. We appreciate your responses. Yes, both of us have American the Beautiful passes. Maybe we will see some of you "B people" in our travels to warmer western states. I was concerned about the B in cold weather, not us. We do not mind cold but I do not want water lines, etc to freeze. Thanks again.

Traveling Southwest in January & February

Thank goodness for our PW Excel! DH has retired(layoff at 64)earlier than we planned so we are making a big lemon into lemonade. How far north in New Mexico/Texas/Arizona/Louisana, etc. can you go before you encounter freezing temperatures in January and February? Being New Englanders, we have no idea how cold it gets in the west. Who travels where during the mid winter months? We plan to just meander. Recomendations and B-tips for living for months at a time would be appreciated. We refuse to hang here this winter lowering our thermostat, layering and feeling sorry for ourselves watching our mutual funds disappear. We were not flower children in the 60's but better late that never! Remember the old beat up vans?? Well, it isn't beat up but we will be living out of the van with minimal funds! Maybe we need some bright paint and flowers on it???? All suggestions are appreciated.

RE: Smallest Trash can for my PW Excel Ford Any Ideas

We use a small waste basket lined with Walmart bags that fits behind the front drivers side seat. It fills quickly so we get rid of trash frequently and inconspicuously. It also fits in the slide out connected to the sink for extra counter so I do not bend when I am making a meal and discarding plastic or veggie leavings. On occasion I tie garbage off, set aside and use waste basket upside down as a footstool for the passenger side seat that turns backward. Multitasking is what items in the B should do!

RE: Ohhh Pleasure Way..You failed us all

We have owned a used 2001 Pleasure Way Excel for 3 traveling seasons (22,000 miles to far). Experience with ANY and ALL purchases today, you have a point about workmanship. But...our experience - It was only in the first months of ownership of our B that we needed to replace a few items. We had courtious helpful service from PW. Since we own a 7 year old vehicle, we expected more rattles and stuff but after 7 years and 53,000 miles everything still works great and we think it was built well. We are almost retired and can not wait to really travel if the gas holds out!

RE: B's Limited Space and Grills

I'm also looking and looking for something small to fit the B. We had an inexpensive small propane grill for three seasons, then the regulator went. We tossed the whole thing thinking we could replace it. Well, it is not that easy and I sure wish we had the grill back. Thanks for the suggestions for new grills. This forum is terrific.

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway in a B

I agree that 81 in VA is also beautiful. I would not do the whole parkway. You will probably fall in love with NC like we did. We have been back in the past 2 yrs 3 times. The BRP is wonderful-lower better vistas. I agree about NP campgrounds. NC state campgrounds are outstanding and most have electricity. You can pick up a NC map with info. I remember NC Stone Mountain having an old homestead (used up to the 50's) open to visitors and the campground was new, elect and water and inexpensive. The homestead was free and worthwhile. Have a great trip.

RE: Corelle dishes in RV

We also use corelle, and carry different sized bowls with pieces of non-slip in between. I use the bowls for mixing as well as serving. They are great in the micro. It really takes a lot to break them. We have not broken any traveling over 20,000 miles. A great plate/bowl for lots of meals is a plastic basket lined with wax paper type liners bought in a box. Bought those at a dollar store. They are sturdy, can be used for meals, serving snacks, etc (lots of uses)and after - paper is tossed, the basket put away with no washing. I always think small, durable, and multi use for everything in the B.

RE: Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

A month ago DH and I traveled the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in our 2001 Excel. It was a beautiful ride. Stop at the rest stop at one of the tunnels. It is amazing how it was built. It was no big deal traveling in the tunnel to us. We did have the propane off but I don't think we were even asked about it. It does cost a $12 toll.
